Council sticks up for park

Mansfield District Council has defended its decision to part-fund a new play area in Mansfield Woodhouse amidst complaints from residents about overspending.

The residents, who preferred not to be named, feel the play area is badly located in an isolated spot, and at risk of vandalism.

One said: “No matter the merits or otherwise, the ones were all under used and over vandalised.”

But Coun Phil Shields, portfolio holder for the environment, said: “The new play area at Manor Park was funded by Mansfield District Council and Nottinghamshire County Council as the existing equipment was expensive to maintain.

“We carried out extensive consultation with residents and park users to identify the best location for the new play area and decide what equipment to include.

“The new facilities are just what the park needed and will provide children with many hours of free enjoyment.”
