Mansfield District Council is formally inviting prospective partners to apply for the opportunity to redevelop the Stockwell Gate North and the old indoor market sites.

The new developments will create an attractive new gateway to the town centre and will encourage investment, be environmentally sustainable and could create 950 new jobs.

Interested parties can apply to redevelop one or both of the sites via the Pre-Qualification Questionnaire, which is available on the Council’s website. The cut off date for applications is noon on 28 April after which a shortlist of six developers will be drawn up.

The Stockwell Gate North site includes the current bus station, due to relocate in February 2013, the Walkden Street multi-storey car park, the former Tesco and potentially the Rosemary Centre.

Plans for this site include a major new retail and leisure development, taxi rank facilities and new parking facilities to replace and possibly increase the number of spaces currently available in the Walkden Street and Rosemary Centre car parks. Mansfield District Council is a major landowner in this development area, which covers approximately 4.25 hectares.

The Council is also seeking a development partner for the former indoor market, a key site adjacent to the Old Town Hall and between the site of the new passenger interchange and the town centre.

The 576 m2 site is owned by the Council and is currently used as a temporary car park. Subject to planning permission, the site will be suitable for a variety of commercial uses.

Coun Kate Allsop, Portfolio Holder for Regeneration at Mansfield District Council, said: “I hope that there is a lot of interest in these redevelopment projects as it is a great opportunity for developers and will bring jobs and investment into Mansfield.”

The Council has produced Planning Policy Guidance (PPG), which is a guide for developers about what their proposals should include and the high quality of design required. The Pre-Qualification Questionnaire, Contract Notice and Memorandum of Information are available on the Council’s website at
