Council gets gritting in Notts on New Year’s Eve
Gritting crews will be out on Nottinghamshire’s roads tonight Thursday, December 31 with road surface temperatures forecast to fall below freezing as we move into the new year.
The County Council’s 23 gritting vehicles are being primed to swing into action from 7pm this evening, as soon as rain, forecast for later this afternoon, dries up.

Hide AdA council spokesperson said: “Once showers have cleared, the rest of the night is forecast to be dry and generally clear, leading to road surface temperatures widely falling below freezing and bringing a risk of hoar frost and icy patches.”
“The Council currently has 18,298 tonnes of salt stored in its four grit barns and is in a strong position to deal with the worst winter conditions.”
In addition to salting roads, NCC also provides and maintains around 1,300 roadside yellow grit bins which can be used by residents on nearby roads and pavements, but it not allowed to be used on private driveways.
