The closure has been decided as part of a Mansfield District Council spending review and was part of the budget-setting process.

A spokesman for the council said: “The council plugged a £3.1m gap through efficiencies and income generation targets to deliver a balanced budget in 2014-15 but difficult decisions will continue to be made as the deficit is expected to increase to £4.731m by 2017-18.”

Coun Roger Sutcliffe, Portfolio Holder for Resources at Mansfield District Council, said: “We have got to move into the 21st century and look at cost savings and this is one where the majority of customers do not feel it would seriously affect them and we have managed to ensure there will be no compulsory redundancies as a result of the closure.”

A member of staff will be based in the central reception area of the Civic Centre on Chesterfield Road South after the closure to help customers with queries including balance enquiries.

You can set up a direct debit to pay Mansfield District Council bills by calling 01623 463162, or pay by standing order online via the council’s website.
