The Ashfield Community Safety Partnership project unveiled warning floor stickers designed for shops and pubs which will go up around town centre.

The stickers have been tested on different surfaces including slabs, Tarmac and herring bone. They are now being put in place in locations which include the bus station and outside Ladbrokes, Jack Fultons, Lloyds TSB and the Woolpack.

New locations will be added now the testing has been successfully completed.

The signs are the visible part of the Storenet project - being introduced to help reduce anti-social behaviour and shop thefts in the town. Behind the scenes, Storenet is seeing an updated and expanded radio network introduced. This means that information about potential troublemakers in licensed premises, and offenders such as shoplifters, can now be quickly and efficiently shared by organisations including the police and council officers and pubs and retail businesses.

Sutton has had a radio system running in the town for about 15 years which has proved useful in reducing crime in the area. But, Ashfield Community Partnership says, it needed updating, expanding and promoting to maximise its effectiveness.

As a result it has been changed to a digital system, making it more accessible to all staff within the retail and pub community.

The number of retail users is increasing and most of the town centre public houses are to come onto the system, to provide a completely new “Pubnet” aspect.

Pubnet will allow door staff and pub management to communicate with each other as well as with the police, Ashfield District Council Community Protection and Environmental Health Officers and with CCTV control.

Inspector Sue Wain said: “This project helps partners to work together on issues that are important to our community. It means we can both involve and support businesses.“We are delighted that Ashfield Community Safety Partnership agreed to fund the project, which includes the innovative floor vinyls. We look forward to seeing it deliver positive outcomes.”
