Cool addition to retail unit

The final remaining retail unit in Mansfield District Council’s £2.4m Queen’s Place development has opened its doors.

Ice Creams and Dreams sells luxury ice creams and cakes in an American diner type atmosphere.

Queen’s Place is the first new building to go up in Mansfield town centre in 10 years, and the council is expecting it to play a key role in boosting commercial confidence in the town.

The council’s Portfolio holder for Regeneration, councillor Dave Saunders, said: “Mansfield is going places. The town centre has seen somewhat of a revival despite the downturn.

“That’s thanks to major levels of investment and a really strong public and private sector partnership driving growth.

“Queen’s Place is available at very competitive rates and businesses there are occupying a building with extremely low running costs in the most up-to-date and environmentally sustainable, landmark building in the town. Plus it is run and managed by a council absolutely committed to the growth of the town centre.”

The parlour opened a week ahead of schedule to be in time for the town’s Big Switch On event on Sunday.

Ice cream and Dreams already has an outlet in Bakewell, Derbyshire, which opened 15 months ago, and is also planning to open parlours in Halifax, Bristol and Harrogate next year.

Operations Manager Vicente Domenech-March said: “I knew the area,I knew the footfall for this area of the town was quite high and there had been a lot money spent on the area. Mansfield people also tend to be the kind who will spend what they have.”
