Former apprentices Nathan Byrne from Selston and Dan Martin of Rainworth are now chefs at The Derbyshire Hotel and they were on hand to showcase their skills to a group of Year Ten and hospitality and catering students from Ashfield School.

The star graduates and their apprentices whipped up a culinary storm by creating a new dish from scratch, pan seared sea bass with a prawn dressing and vegetables to accompany which will now be used on the next menu at the hotel.

The MP said; “I was extremely impressed with everything that I saw. I met so many talented apprentices and clearly the training and hard work is already paying off great dividends because the dishes they produced and the front of house service on display was outstanding and wouldn’t have looked out of place in any top restaurant.”

Nathan and Dan judged 14 year old, Strawberry Barlow from Kirkby’s dish as the overall winner in a cook-off.
