Organ Society

Met on Thursday week at the Parish Centre when Bryon Jones gave a concert. A raffle was organised by Mrs Sue Baines and hostesses were Mrs J. Davies and Mr M. Parkes


Met on Thursday week at the Methodist Church for an illustrated talk by a member of Edale mountain rescue team. A collectors badge was presented to Charlie Walker. Akela Mr A. Melless and Mr I. Taylor were assisted by Explorer Scouts Lorna Sheppard and Jordan Grieve.

Saturday Dance Club

MC at Saturday week’s meeting at Woodside Hall was Mr G, Hawksworth. Finance was organised by Mrs J. Mallett and Mrs S. Linell. Refreshments were by Mr and Mrs D. Niblett, Mrs H. Pearson and Messers K. Wake, R. Hill and S. Hallett.

Age Concern

Met at Friendship House on High Street yesterday week for luncheon and bingo. During the week Volunteers staffed the café and charity shop.

Parish Church

Bellringers rang for the morning service. Sunday week’s morning service was conducted by Reader Miss Pat Brewin. Celebrant and preacher was the Rev Val Sharpe. The lesson was read by John Brearly and intercessions were led by Mrs Jenny Briggs. Prayer Ministry was led by Mrs Joy Brealry and Mrs Jenny Briggs. Organist Tony Herrod accompanied the choir. In the afternoon the Rev Sharpe conducted a baptism.

Meden School

On Thursday week pupils attended a post 16 evening held at the school when teachers were on hand to give advice on subjects available to study.


Visited Walesby, where they went climbing on the wobbly pole. Lily Smith, Sam Pritchard, Ryan Ferguson and Bradley Jelly said their Scout promise and were invested into Scouts whilst climbing, Mr A. Grieve, Mr C. Porteous and Mr I. Smith accompanied.

St Teresa’s RC Church

Celebrant was Father Denis. The reading was given by M. Booth and Eucharistic Ministers were F, Barrett, M. Booth and A. Burgin. Flowers were arranged by Lynn Goff. On Wednesday week the prayer group met at the Convent. Sister Susan led Holy Hour.

StAugustine’s Church

Morning service was conducted by the Rev Val Sharpe who preached. Miss Pat Brewin assisted with the chalice.

Camera Club

Met at Longden Terrace Miners’ Welfare when they chose images and prints for a three way competition.


Met on Thursday week at the Methodist Church, when they tasted different types of bread from around the world. Lucas Johnson was invested and new leader Miss K. Howard said her Scout promise. Miss K. Howard was assisted by Explorer Scout Jordan Grieve. From Saturday to Sunday week Beavers attended a sleepover at Ollerton HQ with a pirate theme. Lucus Johnson, Ben Eccleston, George Aubienac and Emily French received onenight away badges. Mr A. Melless, Mr A. Grieve, Miss K. Howards and Mrs I. French were in charge.

Ladies Probus Club

President Paddy Holden welcomed members to the Parish Centre. Richard Papworth gave a talk about his work as a store detective. Members discussed the Winter Fayre on 8th November at 10am in the Tudor Barn. On Thursday week the club hosted a concert by the Dukeries Singers in the Parish Church.
