The Rev Lionel Anderson conducted Sunday week’s service and organist was Mrs Helen Wain. Mrs Crystal Gibson was vestry steward and door steward Mrs Janet Fairfield also gave a reading. David Parnell and Mally Wainwright were instructors at Ashfield Dragons Kick Boxing meetings.

Community of Christ

Hazel Holmes led worship at the women’s meeting last Tuesday week. What’s in the News? was the topic for an activity about items from newspapers. Mary Walters provided refreshments. There was also a bring-and-buy sale. On Wednesday week there was a coffee morning and nearly new sale. Love Beyond Boundaries, was theme for Sunday week’s worship led by Hazel Holmes. Stewart Woodhouse welcomed the congregation and took the offering. Ralph Holmes was pianist and afterwards refreshments were served by Stewart and Barbara Woodhouse.

50 Plus Forum chairman, Christine Roebuck, opened February’s meeting at Anchor Centre, Skegby. Speaker Paul Bradshaw talked about the workings of magistrates courts. Betty Leivers and Christine Roebuck served refreshments.

Zion Baptist Church

Sunday week’s worship was led by Helen Tomlinson and the worship team. Blair Hutchison was in charge of sound and lighting mixing systems. Speaker, the Rev Charles Claydon, also gave readings with Sue Gardner. Communion was served and Helen Tomlinson spoke about reading the Bible in a year. Xtreme Sunday School was led by Lucy Chalk, Matt Tomlinson, Paulette West and Michelle Hutchison.

St John’s Church

On Thursday week there was a WeightWatchers’ meeting. Olive Branch Coffee Bar was open on Friday week and Saturday week. There was a Boys’ Brigade meeting on the Friday. Sunday week’s morning worship included communion and was led by Mr Andy Leam. Mrs Sue Otter operated the clavinova. Readers were Mr Bob Lawson and Jill Moakes. Junior church was led by Vicky Young and Janine Burton. Mr and Mrs P. Rhodes served refreshments. Mr Ron Cowle led evening worship and Mrs Doreen Young played the clavinova. Reader was Mrs Julie Berry and stewards were Mrs Irene Bestwick and Jill Moakes. On Monday week there were meetings of Ashfield Childminders’ Association, a Pilates class, Girls’ Brigade and Sutton Choral Society. Yesterday week there was a carers’ and toddlers’ group meeting and a zumba class. Last Wednesday there was art and keep fit classes. Mr John Whitehead led a prayer and praise meeting and speaker was the Rev Paul Worsnop. Soloist was Yvonne Hague and accompanist, Mrs Jan Dawes.

Aspley Court

At yesterday week’s meeting domino winners were Dorothy Papworth, Christine Lee, Mary Armstrong and Dorothy Jones. Members played bingo after lunch. Game winners were Edna Smith, Dorothy Papworth, Beryl Thompson and Nelly Bramley.

Members celebrated Holy Communion on Wednesday week. Hilary Bostock led Pins and Needles Group’s meeting and Thursday week’s card craft session. There was a prayer meeting later. June Bagley led Friday week’s MINGLE Group meeting and Jane Selby led a children’s glee dance club meeting. There were film nights on Friday week and Saturday week. The Rev Adrian Butt celebrated Sunday week’s Holy Communion and youth team members arranged 11 Alive service. Greeters were John and Anthea Calladine and steward was Anne Acton. Bernard Brown gave readings, with the Rev Frank Crowther, and took the offertory, with Derek Smith. Eunice Wright and Derek Smith served refreshments. Julie Cotterill led Mothers’ Union’s Toddlers’ Group session on Monday week. Jane Selby led a children’s drama group meeting. Yesterday week there was a community choir practice.

4th Guides

At Monday week’s meeting members had games and chocolate badgework. Leaders were Liz Belshaw, Trish Baines, Nikki Walton and Joanne Betteridge.

Sutton Centre

At under Fives’ Playgroup children celebrated the ‘birthday’ of the group’s Teddy bear by making a cake and cards, writing their names in cards, singing and having a party. They also wrapped presents and danced. Other activities included role play of getting up and talking about breakfasts. Ladybird certificates were given to Leo Shay-Lee, Mace Wall and Ellyssa Taylor. Katie Waring celebrated her fourth birthday.

Salvation Army

Sylvia Linnell, Lt Matthew Brown, Brian and Janet Sawyer and Alan and Margaret Wright served meals at Wednesday week’s lunch club meeting. Janet Sawyer led the over 60s meeting. On Thursday week Jenni Ross led Bible study. Cynthia Densham and helpers ran Saturday week’s coffee morning. On Sunday week Maj Joy Caddy led the morning meeting and Lt Brown led a cafe-style service in the evening. Helen Waters, Lt Brown, Andrew Salmon and Alan and Margaret Wright led Little Treasures’ parents’ and toddlers’ meeting on Monday week.
