Methodist Church

Saturday week’s coffee morning raised more than £200 for church funds. Ashfield District Coun Ann Patrick was available for consultation. Eileen and Howard Lawrence, Roy and Margaret Horner, Stuart Bramwell and Brenda Johnson served breakfasts and snacks. Cashier was Doris Taylor. Maureen and Derek Megainey, Kathleen Bramwell, Joyce Holloway and Mary Hemsley manned stalls. Gill Lunn conducted Sunday week’s service and the theme was the Transfiguration of Jesus Christ. Di Smith operated the clavinova. Door stewards were Sue Beniston and Sheila Clarke. Vestry stewards Eileen and Howard Lawrence took the offertory with Shannon and Megan Jones and Eva Harrison. Doris Taylor manned the sound mixer desk and Sandra Burton gave a PowerPoint presentation. Kathleen Bramwell opened the service and led prayers for the Minister, the Rev Alan Boyd, recovering from an operation. Len Jones and Stuart Bramwell gave Bible readings. Anne and John Baines led junior church. Noreen Kells, Sandra Burton and Denise Matters served refreshments. Members of caring and learning group ran an Oasis session of prayers and listening on Monday week. Yesterday week Sue Beniston and Di Smith ran Babies’ Swap Shop, where second-hand babies’ and toddlers’ toys and clothes were available for swapping or buying.

Beechwood Court Chairman of 50 Plus Club, Mr Norman Broadbelt, opened Thursday week’s meeting attended by 37 members. He was bingo caller assisted by Mesdames M. Gwynn, J. Turner and M. Marchant and Mr R. Birkin. Mrs S. Clarke and Mrs M. Hoyland served teas and Messrs J. Clarke, T. Rowe and Birkin did kitchen duties. Mrs J. Boyer celebrated her birthday and raffle winner was Mr Birkin. Hoopla game winners were Mr and Mrs Broadbelt, Mrs J. Harris and Mrs V. Beniston.

Busy Bees Club

Fourteen pre-school children, accompanied by adults, attended last Tuesday week’s meeting and 11 accompanied children attended Thursday week’s meeting. Lacie Foley’s third birthday was celebrated. Activities included painting, action songs and play with a tunnel, a trampoline and toy vehicles.

St Andrews’ Church

There was a Little Fishes Toddlers’ Group meeting last Monday week and a 20-minutes’ prayer period, on Thursday week. The Vicar, Canon Dr Richard Kellett, conducted the funeral of Mrs Anne Summerfield on Friday week. Her son, John, gave a eulogy and her daughter Mary Whitbread, gave a Bible reading. Organists were John Dunn and Anthony Herrod. Members ran a Fairtrade coffee morning on Saturday week. The vicar conducted the wedding of Joseph Clarkson and Emma Louise Paget. Organist was John Dunn. The vicar celebrated Sunday week’s early said Holy Communion and later all-age worship attended by junior church members. Graham Clarke gave an address and Steward Riley, a Bible reading. Pam Shaw and Pam Clarke were in the ministry team. Sue Duckmanton, Jackie Greenhalgh and Marilyn Turner served refreshments.

Monday Club

At Healdswood Community Centre chairman, Mr Jim Clarke, opened Monday week’s meeting attended by 28 members. He and Mrs M. Wallace were bingo callers. Ticket sellers were Mesdames K. Nelson, P. Patton and M. Gwynn. Mrs J. Hague and Mrs R. White did kitchen duties. Raffle winner was Mrs Patton and a tombola raised £66 for club funds. Birthday greetings were sung to Mr H. Else.

At Monday week’s meeting members celebrated Shrove Tuesday with pancakes.

All Saints’ Church Reader Eleanor Greaves led Sunday week’s services and Estelle Ellis was pianist for the day. At family service preacher was the Curate, the Rev Kate Byrom. At evensong Tony Hallam and Margaret Osborne gave readings. Ian Hallam led Brightlights Youth Group’s meeting.

Baptist Church

Pastor Sharon Craddock conducted Sunday week’s services. Hazel Williams was organist. At the morning service Shirley Dicks and Barbara James served communion. Paula Skinner and Shirley Dicks led junior church.

SHINE

Samantha Evans, of Ashfield District Council, cooked a meal for members at yesterday week’s meeting at Brand Court. She also talked about healthy eating. Members also had quizzes and bingo.

Teversal

St Katherine’s Church

Members and leaders of Bats children’s group had an activity session on Sunday week. Associate Priest, the Rev Adrian Dempster, celebrated Holy Communion in the evening. Reader Graham Clarke gave an address called God’s Power to Transform, led intercessions and administered the chalice. Maureen Dempster gave a Bible reading and John Dunn was organist. Jane Fowkes and Averil Higginson were church stewards. Margaret Wilkes served refreshments.
