Beechwood Court

Chairman of 50 Plus Club, Mr Norman Broadbelt, opened Thursday week’s meeting attended by 38 members. Mesdames S. Clarke, S. Key and M. Hayes served teas and Messrs A. Key, T. Rowe, R. Birkin and J. Clarke did kitchen duties. Mr Clarke was bingo caller assisted by Mesdames M. Marchant, M. Gwynn and J. Turner and Mr Birkin. Mesdames J. Boyer, Turner and Marchant sold tickets and members played cards. Raffle winner was Mrs F. Sevens.

Methodist Church

On Wednesday week there was a prayer meeting and on Thursday week, a singing practice. Later fellowship lunch was at Oddfellows, Sutton. Members of Anchor Ramblers met at Teversal Visitor Centre on Saturday week. Borders Mission Circuit Superintendent Minister, the Rev Dermot Thornberry, conducted Sunday week’s service. Door stewards were Jean and Gerald Hutson and vestry stewards were Len Jones and Ann Patrick. Di Smith operated the clavinova and Doris Taylor manned the sound mixer desk and gave a PowerPoint presentation. Worship leader, Brenda Goldsmith, opened the service, led intercessions, and with Brenda and Trevor Johnson, gave a dramatised reading. Shannon and Megan Jones and Eva Harrison took the offertory and assisted Doris Taylor in making a presentation to Brenda and Frank Goldsmith, who left the area to live at Lee-on-the-Solent, Hampshire. John and Anne Baines led junior church. Denise Matters and Di Smith served refreshments.

St Andrew’s Church

There was a Little Fishes activity period last Monday week and a 20-minutes’ prayer meeting, on Thursday week. Associate Priest, the Rev Adrian Dempster, celebrated Sunday week’s early said and later sung parish Holy Communions. The Curate, the Rev Kate Byrom, assisted at the later service and John Dunn was organist. Katie Smith and Joyce Carter gave Bible readings and David Lomas led prayers. Jane Crafts and Yvonne Swain were in the ministry team. Stewards were Averil Allison and Pam and Graham Clarke. Ian Hallam assisted at communion. Marilyn Turner and Martyn Bowler served refreshments. Mike and Mary Collins and Hilary Hillman led junior church at the church hall.

Monday Club

At Healdswood Community Centre chairman, Mr Jim Clarke, opened Monday week’s meeting attended by 28 members. Birthday greetings were sung to Mrs J. Hague who provided refreshments to celebrate. Ticket sellers were Mesdames M. Gwynn, M. Briggs and K. Nelson. Mr Clarke and Mrs M. Wallace were bingo callers. Mrs Hague and Mrs R. White did kitchen duties.

Brownies

At Monday week’s meeting members prepared and had a ceremony to mark Thinking Day. Leaders were Catherine Willis, Anne Bagley, Michelle Cook and Louise Flint.

G Force Line Dancing

At yesterday week’s meeting at Anchor Centre Gaye Teather taught a dance that had been choreographed for the Line Dancing Federation charity.

Associate Priest, the Rev Adrian Dempster, assisted by his wife, Maureen, led Sunday week’s service. Estelle Ellis was pianist. Ian Hallam led Brightlights Youth Group’s meeting.

Baptist Church

John and Mandy Foster led Sunday week’s all-age service. There was a prayer lunch on Thursday week. Hazel and Neville Williams hosted Bible study at their home in the evening. Sensei Michael Burke, of Zanshin Karate Association, led karate classes in the sports hall on Saturday week.

At Brand Court at yesterday week’s meeting Pauline Stojanovic led chair-based exercise.

St Katherine’s Church

Saturday week’s coffee morning at the Scout Hut raised £394 for church funds. There was prayer and Bible study last Tuesday week. Christian crafts group members met at the Scout Hut on Thursday week. The Curate, the Rev Kate Byrom, conducted Sunday week’s evensong, led intercessions and gave a talk called In God’s Time. Janet Pursglove and churchwarden Rose Singleton gave Bible readings and organist was John Dunn. Church stewards were Mick and Jean Murphy.
