At Wednesday week’s meeting, Bethany Peake organised beauty-theme activities. Members used items from the kitchen to make face masks, lip gloss and bath sachets. Rachel Scofield arranged games and members talked about recruitment and future activities.

Busy Bees Club

At Anchor Centre 15 pre-school children, accompanied by adults, attended last Tuesday week’s meeting and 10 accompanied children, Thursday week’s meeting. Halia Gilder, her grandmother, Claire, and her mother, Keely Shenton, Arthur and Amelie Meakin-Troke and their mother, Sam, were welcomed. Members played with fuzzy felt, playdough, a slide and toy vehicles and castle.

Methodist Church

Notts and Derbys District Chairman, the Rev Loraine Mellor, conducted Sunday week’s service. At the foot of the Lent Cross, Sue and Malc Beniston put symbols of Christ Washing The Disciples Feet. Kathleen Bramwell opened the service and said offertory and intercession prayers. Di Smith and Denise Matters played the clavinova. Eileen Lawrence manned the sound mixer desk and gave a PowerPoint presentation. Vestry steward Trevor Johnson read letters from the Minister, the Rev Alan Boyd, about his ill-health and thanks for prayer. Other vestry steward was Brenda Johnson and door stewards were Noreen Kells and Jean Brookes. Joan Hollingsworth gave a Bible reading about Nicodemus, and Stuart Bramwell, Howard Lawrence and Jean Brookes did a drama based on it. Shannon and Megan Jones and Eva Harrison took the offertory. Anne and John Baines led junior church. Daphne Thorpe and Margaret Rutledge served refreshments.

St Andrew’s Church

There was a Little Fishes Toddlers’ Group activity session last Monday week. Later the Curate, the Rev Kate Byrom, and church members led a Messy Church event at the hall. There was a 20 minutes’ prayer period on Thursday week. The Vicar, Canon Dr Richard Kellett, conducted the funeral of Mrs Joan Aldread on Friday week. Organist was John Dunn. The vicar celebrated Sunday week’s early said Holy Communion and assisted at morning worship led by the curate. Pam Clarke gave a Bible reading and John Dunn was organist. Celia Kellett led prayers and Jane Crafts and Sheila Shepherd were in the ministry team. Stewards were Joy Riley and Marilyn Turner. Mike and Mary Collins and Hilary Hillman led junior church at the hall, where refreshments were served afterwards. Associate Priest, the Rev Adrian Dempster, conducted a baptism service for Abigail Armson.

Beechwood Court

Chairman of 50 Plus Club, Mr Norman Broadbelt, opened Thursday week’s meeting attended by 32 members. He was bingo caller assisted by Mrs M. Gwynn, Mrs J. Turner and Mr J. Clarke. Mrs M. Hoyland and Mrs S. Clarke served teas and Mr Clarke, Mr T. Rowe, Mrs Gwynn and Mrs Turner did kitchen duties. Raffle winner Mrs R. Stones sold tickets with Mrs Turner and Mrs Hoyland. Mr and Mrs Rowe provided a buffet to celebrate their wedding anniversary. Mr and Mrs H. Mitchell and Mrs and Mrs A. Key also celebrated their wedding anniversaries.

Monday Club

At Healdswood Community Centre secretary, Mrs P. Patton, welcomed 25 members to Monday week’s meeting. Raffle winner was Mrs F. Else. Mrs K. Nelson and Mrs Patton sold tickets. Bingo callers were Mrs M. Gwynn and Mrs M. Wallace. Mrs J. Hague and Mrs R. White did kitchen duties. Mrs Patton organised a quiz won by Mrs Gwynn.

G Force Line Dancing

Gaye Teather taught an Irish dance at yesterday week’s meeting at Anchor Centre. Members also revised a country dance.

Brownies

At Monday week’s meeting Catherine Willis, Anne Bagley, Michelle Cook and Louise Flint led zumba dancing. Members then devised routines.

Stanton Hill

All Saints’ Church

There was Skegby, Stanton Hill and Teversal Churches Together meeting last Monday week. Mothers’ Union had a meeting last Tuesday week and there was a coffee morning on Friday week. Associate Priest, the Rev Adrian Dempster, led Sunday week’s evensong. Maureen Walton-Mowbray and Patricia Patton gave readings and Estelle Ellis was pianist. Ian Hallam led Brightlights Youth Group’s meeting.

Baptist Church

John Pickering conducted Sunday week’s service. Organist was Cliff Bacon. The church was open for prayer last Monday week. There was carpet bowls at the sports hall. On Thursday week there was a prayer lunch. Sensei Michael Burke, of Zanshin Karate Association, led karate classes in the sports hall on Saturday week.

SHINE

At Brand Court members played bocce bowls and had bingo and refreshments at yesterday week’s meeting.

Teversal

St Katherine’s Church

The Curate, the Rev Kate Byrom, led Sunday week’s service and assisted at communion. During the service at the annual parochial meeting churchwardens John Caunt and Rose Singleton were re-elected. Treasurer Yvonne Swain gave a finance report and John Caunt, a fabric report. The Vicar, Canon Dr Richard Kellett, celebrated Holy Communion and gave a talk called Making Disciples. Organist was John Dunn and church stewards were Beryl and Peter Millhouse.

Women’s Institute

President Nancy Millward welcomed members to March’s meeting at the Scout Hut. Kay Adkin decorated the birthday table for Kathleen Lenahan, Doreen Oliver, Winnie Spencer and Maureen Dakin. A competition for a favourite mug was won by Enid Oscroft, Christine Whitehead and June Wilkinson. At the annual meeting the president was re-elected and she thanked committee members and members for support. Treasurer Mary Hardstaff gave a report and secretary Diane Farmilo reported on last year’s activities. Enid Oscroft announced speakers for the coming year. New committee members elected were Jayne Phillips, Joyce Buxton, Susanne Knowles and Coleen Green. Winners of the yearly competition were Yvonne Green, Pat Slack and Nancy Millward. Pianist was Margaret Iball.
