At last Wednesday week’s meeting Mary and Hannah Makinson-Smith received star of the week awards and Thea Evans, a weekly award. Activities including games were about the winter Paralympics and ice skating, ski jumping, ice hockey, shooting and curling. Competition winners were Scarlett Burton, Thea Evans and Isabel Harris. Leaders Helen Halfpenny, Jamie Brelsford and Jo and Bethany Peake were assisted by Guide Charlotte Peake.

Busy Bees Club

At Anchor Centre 14 pre-school children, accompanied by adults, attended last Tuesday week’s meeting and 12 accompanied children, Thursday week’s meeting. Bella Donnelly and Natalie Wright were welcomed. Activities included colouring, play with dolls and prams and toy vehicles and singing.

Chairman of 50 Plus Club, Mr Norman Broadbelt, opened Thursday week’s meeting attended by 29 members. Mrs S. Hoyland and Mrs S. Key served teas and Mrs M. Gwynn and Messrs T. Rowe, R. Birkin and A. Key did kitchen duties. Mrs M. Marchant and Mrs J. Turner sold tickets, with Mrs J. Boyer, and helped with bingo, with Mrs Gwynn and Mr Birkin. Mr and Mrs H. Mitchell and Mr and Mrs Key provided refreshments. Quiz winners were Mrs M. Hayes, Mrs D. Lomas, Mr Birkin and Mr J. Clarke and raffle winner was Mrs J. Green.

Guides

Lottie Peake organised a picture game at Wednesday week’s meeting. Members designed ‘rooms of the future’ for Brownie celebration badgework. A birthday card was given to Lottie Peake and Thinking Day and passion-for-fashion badges were awarded to Mia Dobb, Charlotte Hall and Hope Henstock.

St Andrew’s Church

There was a Little Fishes Toddlers’ Group activity period last Monday week and a 20-minutes’ prayer meeting, on Thursday week. The Rev Philip Bosher celebrated Sunday week’s early said Holy Communion. The Vicar, Canon Dr Richard Kellett, and the Curate, the Rev Kate Byrom, led sung parish communion. Organist was John Dunn and the vicar played guitar. Pam Shaw and Gill Smith gave Bible readings and Jane Crafts led prayers. Susan Patchet and Sharon Hallam were in the ministry team. Stewards were Martyn and June Bowler. Rose Hardy and Averil Allison served refreshments. Mike and Mary Collins and Hilary Hillman led junior church at the hall.

Methodist Church

Kathleen Bramwell led Sunday week’s service that included a presentation prepared by Borders Mission Circuit’s evangelism team. Door stewards were Stuart Bramwell and Howard Lawrence and vestry stewards were Len Jones and Eileen Lawrence. Doris Taylor manned the sound mixer desk and gave a PowerPoint presentation. Di Smith operated the clavinova and Sandra Burton gave Bible readings. On the Lent cross, Malc Beniston played a symbol of Judas betraying Jesus. Shannon and Megan Jones took the offertory. Anne and John Baines led junior church. Howard Lawrence, Sue Beniston and Sheila Clarke served refreshments.

Monday Club

Chairman, Mr J. Clarke, opened Monday week’s meeting at Healdswood Community Centre attended by 22 members. Raffle winner was Mr S. Briggs and bingo callers were Mr Clarke and Mrs M. Wallace. Mrs M. Gwynn and Mrs P. Patton did kitchen duties and, with Mrs M. Briggs, sold tickets. Birthday greetings were sung to Mrs J. Turner.

Brownies

At Monday week’s meeting members made t-light holders, key rings, cakes and cards for Mothers’ Day. Leaders were Catherine Willis, Anne Bagley and Michelle Cook.

G Force Line Dancing

At yesterday week’s meeting Gaye Teather taught a country cha cha at Anchor Centre.

All Saints’ Church

Reader Eleanor Greaves conducted Sunday week’s evening worship. Estelle Ellis was pianist. Ian Hallam led Brightlights Youth Group’s meeting.

Mrs S. Craddock, R. Holloway, R. Squires and Mr J. Wakeland led junior members for arts, crafts and games at Thursday week’s meeting. Mr and Mrs P. Halfpenny and Mr Wakeland led activities for older members. Mrs Craddock led devotions.

Baptist Church

David Ward conducted Sunday week’s service. Organist was Cliff Bacon. The church was open for prayer last Monday week. There was carpet bowls at the sports hall. On Thursday week there was a prayer lunch. Sensei Michael Burke, of Zanshin Karate Association, led karate classes in the sports hall on Saturday week.

SHINE

At yesterday week’s meeting at Brand Court members had refreshments, bingo and bocce bowls.

Teversal

St Katherine’s Church The Curate, the Rev Kate Byrom, conducted Sunday week’s evensong, led intercessions and gave a talk called God’s Amazing Love. Gwyneth Allwood and Janet Pursglove gave Bible readings. John Dunn was organist and Jeremy Elkington was church steward.
