RainbowsMembers dressed as cats, bats or rats for Wednesday week’s meeting at Quarrydale School. They played games Pin The Tail On The Rat, and Animal Corners, made paper bags for sweets and coloured pictures of cats. New members started work on their Rainbow books. Leaders Pam, Jo and Bethany Peake and Helen Halfpenny were assisted by Guide Charlotte Peake.

Busy Beeds Club

At Anchor Centre 11 pre-school children, accompanied by adults, attended Thursday week’s meeting. Activities included painting and play on tricycles and a slide.

Beechwood Court

Chairman of 50 Plus Club, Mr Norman Broadbelt, was bingo caller and opened Thursday week’s meeting attended by 41 members. Mesdames S. Key, M. Hoyland and M. Hayes served teas and Messrs R. Birkin, T. Rowe, A. Key and J. Clarke did kitchen duties. Raffle winner Mrs M. Marchant sold tickets with, Mrs B. Waring, Mrs J. Boyer and Mr Birkin, and helped with bingo with Mrs M. Gwynn and Mrs Waring. Birthday greetings were sung to Mrs C. Stevenson who, with Mrs B. Bradford, provided refreshments. Quiz winners were Mesdames J. Bennett, R. Renshaw and Waring and Mr A. Parkes.

Methodist Church

Saturday week’s coffee morning at Anchor Centre was for the charity Scope. Ashfield District Coun Ann Patrick was available for consultation. Eileen Lawrence, Stuart Bramwell, Brenda Johnson, Roy Horner, Doris Taylor and Josie Kemp served refreshments and breakfasts. Jean Randall and Margaret Horner ran a cake stall and Mick Randall and Reg Dawson, a tombola. Gerald Hutson was cashier. Roy Cowle conducted Sunday week’s morning service. Door steward was Margaret Jones and vestry stewards Brenda and Trevor Johnson took the offertory with Shannon and Megan Jones. Arnie Kells manned the sound mixer desk and gave a PowerPoint presentation. Worship leader Kathleen Bramwell opened the service and led intercessions. Di Smith operated the clavinova and Eileen Lawrence gave a Bible reading. John and Anne Baines led junior church. Noreen and Arnie Kells and Sandra Burton served refreshments.

St Andrew’s Church

The Vicar, Canon Dr Richard Kellett, celebrated Sunday week’s early said Holy Communion. Reader Graham Clarke and Jennie Sharpe led all-age worship. Music was by organist John Dunn and Brightlights Youth Band. Jenson Smith gave a Bible reading and Jennie Sharpe led prayers. Pam Clarke and Sharon Hallam were in the ministry team and David Swain was steward. Marilyn Turner and Sue Duckmanton served refreshments. The vicar conducted a memorial service for the recently bereaved assisted by Reader John Whitbread. There was a Little Fishes Toddlers’ Group activity session, last Monday week, and a 20-minutes prayer period, on Thursday week.

Monday Club

At Healdswood Community Centre chairman Mr David Franks welcomed 32 members to Monday week’s meeting. He and Mrs Patricia Patton sold tickets. Raffle winner Mrs J. Hague and Mrs R. White did kitchen duties. Bingo callers Mr J. Clarke and Mrs M. Wallace were assisted by Mrs M. Gwynn and Mrs M. Hoyland. Birthday greetings were sung to Mrs K. Nelson and Mrs S. Gascoigne.


At Monday week’s meeting at Quarrydale School, members had sparklers and a fancy dress parade for a Hallowe’en and bonfire-theme party. They also did apple bobbing and decorated cakes and apples. Leaders were Catherine Willis, Anne Bagley, Natalie and Louise Flint, Michelle Niblett and Margaret Owen.
