Borough SJA

Cadets learned about the skeleton and how to treat fratures and dislocations, led by Callum Smith. They also learned about the components of the spine, and how it supports the body. The adults made arrangements for forthcoming duties.

6th St Mark’s BB

Members returned from a weeks camp at Sedbergh Cumbria. Highlights of the week were the Ventura Extreme Adventure climb on Honister Pass, three hill walks including Scafell Pike and a visit to the Light Water Theme Park.

St Mark’s Church

Celebrant for the Parish Communion was the Rev Valerie Sharpe with Readers Andrew and Carla Tucker, Prayers led by Rosmarie Tomes.

U3A Hiking Group

Thirteen members, led by David and Julia Porter, went on a 6.5 mile walk from Arnold to the Mill Lakes Country Park in Bestwood.

St Mary’s Church

Morning praise was led by Lynda Woodward. Lessons were read by Kathleen Brown, Lynn Kidd and Val Pearce, who also gave the talk. Intercessions were led by Judith Mather, Lynda Woodward and Val Pearce. Rita Babos and Babs Valentine were sidespersons. Shirley Dawe and Lynn Kidd provided refreshments.

Bridge Street Meths

Morning worship was led by the Rev Bob Jones on the theme of ‘Who may dwell in the house of the Lord?”. Readings were given by Sam Glasswell and Paul Webster and music was played by Jan Dawes. A recent ‘Open House’ event in aid of The Emily Harris Foundation raised £400.

Unitarian Old Meeting

The evening service at the Old Meeting House l was ed by the Minister, Rev Patrick Timperley. The chalice candle was lit by Neil Fisher. The Minister read from Signs of Life by Richard Adams and God in Us by Anthony Freeman. Organist was Bill Brown. Steward Paul Frost took the collection. Refreshments were served by Pat Cairns.

St Augustine’s Church

The Rev John Burgess celebrated Holy Communion and preached. Reader Nigel Patten led the service and intercessions. Sue Wilson read the gospel, Angela Walton the epistle and took the offertory. Leslie Marriott served and Ian Wilson gave the chalice. Refreshments were served by Jane Carlin and Angela Walton. The Rev Burgess baptised Floyd Malcolm Hunt.
