3rd Brownies: Led by Natalie Carr and Abbi Grundy made decorated headbands, played games and sang at Trinity CentrePoint on Monday week. The pack meets every Monday in term time at 5.45pm and is eager to recruit new members.
OUR Lady RC Church: Sunday week’s mass was by Father F. Higgins. Greig Thompson was reader. The offertory procession members were Travis and Lewis Redhead, Megan McPherson, Ria Johnson, Caelin Riyadi, Ralph Barratt and Mia Terry. Mary Clare-Endy, Kathleen Whittingham, David Shipley, Mike Rogers and Colin Malatratt served communion. John Fejfer and Rex Clarke took the collection. Music was by Maranatha. Cath Moulton and Jerry Herrington served coffee for parish funds.
ST Wilfrid’s Parish Church: Rev Wendy Patchell led Holy Communion on Sunday week. Sandra Smith and Marilyn Ball administered the chalice. David and Marilyn Ball with Anne Allcock and Pam Huffen were the sidesmen. Thea Avison read prayers. Simon and Ann Hilton read the lessons. The vicar led a service of evening prayer. Ann Hilton and Peter Stafford both read. Mr Stafford also read prayers.
1st Guides: Began a series of ‘Go for It’s’, including the Peace, Fitness and Looking at Me badges. They also collated an internet search collage. Abigail Winsor (correct) received her second challenge badge. Details of the Hannah Montana song ‘Make Some Noise’ were handed out. It is anticipated that 11,000 guides will be singing their hearts out at the Big Gig in Sheffield. Leaders were Claire Sharman and Elaine Britnell.
ST Thomas Church: Rev Neil Popham celebrated Holy Communion on Wednesday week. The Fellowship Group then met and a shared lunch was taken in the church hall. The carers and toddlers drop in session as held in the afternoon. John Cook manned the parish office in the evening. The youth group met at the vicarage. On Sunday week the vicar took Holy Communion assisted by Reader Chris Manning who gave the address. Sarah Clarke led children’s activities. Prayer time was by John Cook. Sandy Edwards-Walsh administered the chalice. Stuart Bradshaw played the piano. John and Sandra Walker were church stewards. Pauline and Eric Russ served morning coffee. Pat Cook manned a Traidcraft stall. The vicar led the evening ‘Breathing Space with God’ event.
ASHFIELD Evergreens: On Monday week members played card games whilst Len Fox entertained on the organ. Glenys Williams and Joyce Shepherd then served lunches. Bingo was played in the afternoon. Mrs Brenda Kirk provided refreshments in celebration of her birthday. Carpet bowls were played on Tuesday week. Walter Jones and Joan Peel provided the music for Thursday week’s and Friday week’s dance sessions.
CHURCH of Christ: Geoff Sheldon led the morning meeting on Sunday week. The speaker was Eric Faulks. David Wilson and Denis Faulks read from the Old and the New Testaments respectively. Eric Faulks served communion. Tom King led the evening service and also spoke.
HILL Methodist Church: Joy and Don Franks hosted Monday week’s bible study group. The Genesis Youth Group met in the evening. Lunches were served on Tuesday week. In the evening Rev Mick Dilley chaired a church council meeting. Wednesday week’s mother and Toddler Group were followed by the Wednesday Fellowship led by Rosemary Radford. The speaker was John Whitehead. Betty Grice played the organ. The dance class met on Thursday week. There was a prayer meeting at the Hill on Saturday week. Mrs Jackie Dawson of Ripley was the preacher for Sunday week’s morning meeting. Sharon Wharmsby and Paul Grice were readers. The pianist was Joyce Bradshaw. Mr David Smith also of Ripley led the evening meeting. Gladys Dear and Helene Smith were readers. The organist was Betty Grice.
FOREST Street Baptist Church: The Art and Keep Fit groups met on Tuesday week. Pastor John Tunnicliffe of Derby took Sunday week’s morning service. Mrs Brenda Hundley read the lesson. Coffee was served by Mr Ray Forrest and Miss Jane Brierley. Rev Ros Wilkes led the evening service. Mrs Maureen Osborne read the lesson. Musicians for the day were Miss Doreen and Miss Margaret Homer. Mrs Audrey Peake opened last Monday’s Ladies Fellowship with devotions. Mrs Maureen Osborne provided refreshments. The pianist was Miss Margaret Homer. The ladies held their Annual General Meeting at which all officers were re-elected.
ROTARY: President Mike Lee chaired Tuesday weeks’ meeting at the Summit Centre thanking all those who staffed the fundraising stall at the recent Kirkby Woodhouse Primary School summer fair. Club Secretary Roger Pursey was commended for the huge amount of time he had recently put into the reorganisation of the club’s administration. Rotn Richard Woodhouse brought fraternal greetings from the Wirksworth club. Rotn John McEwen finalised arrangements for transport to the District Conference in Southport to take place during the last weekend in October.
TRINITY Methodist Church: Coffee bar was open from Monday week to Friday week inclusive. The Forget Me Not dementia group met on Monday week. Job advice was available Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday week. General advice was available Tuesday, Thursday and Friday week. Rev Barry Shipley led the Tuesday Fellowship. Surestart Messy Play also met. Flower Arrangers met on Wednesday week. Thursday week’s Mother and Toddler session was followed by the Luncheon Club and Open Hands group. Open Hands filled shoeboxes for the Samaritans Purse Christmas Collection. Thursday week’s Ladies group were given a talk by a representative from Collective Legal Solutions. Trinity Singers rehearsed on Friday week. The Stroke Association met in the afternoon. Sunday week’s preacher was Mrs Joy Jennison. Christine Nuttall was church steward. The door steward was Hazel Forrest who also took the collection with Lynn Fairbrother. Maureen Shilling and Christine Nuttall read lessons. Family Time was by Beryl Richardson. Suzanne Morton and Christine Nuttall manned the media suite. Fay Shackleton played the organ. Margaret Thorpe served coffee in aid of the Methodist Mission in Mali.
SPIRITUALIST Church: Is currently closed for renovation until further notice.
7C’s Christian Fellowship: David Holloway, Jim Wilson and Mark Roxburgh led worship. Glenys Holloway and K. Hemmingway both sang. D. Roxburgh led faith builder. Pastor Maurice England and Peter Buxton served communion. David Holloway gave the address. Mid week fellowship was at the home of Mr and Mrs England. Tracey and Peter Buxton hosted the bible study group on Thursday week.
