Methodist Church

The service on Sunday morning was taken by the Rev Andrew Orton and included readings from Alan Tighe. Enid Marsh played the music during the service. For their evening service church members visited Rainworth Methodist church.

Tuesday Fellowship

The meeting on Tuesday at Farnsfield St Michael’s church was led by Margaret Tait.

Flower Club

The club’s next meeting will be on Monday, 28th April at 2pm in the Lower Hall, Farnsfield Village Centre and will be a demonstration called A Bit of a Do’ with Lyn Wherrett. This will be a ‘bring a friend free’ event.

Horticultural Society

The society is preparing for its spring show on Saturday 12th April at the Village Centre. The schedules will be available from local shops. Open to the public after 12.30pm.

Rainworth

Over 50s Club

Mr R. Holmes welcomed 102 members to their meeting on Tuesday week at the Rainworth Miners’ Welfare. Mr C. Dodsworth was the MC for dancing and the spot waltz winners were Mrs J. Doren and Mrs M. Polkey. Serving refreshments to the members were Mrs E. Baxter and Mrs M. Wood. Mr J. Hallam called the bingo and the ticket sellers were Mrs A. Plastow and Mrs L. Parkin. The competition winner was Mrs B. Wagstaff.

MC for Dominoes was Mr J. Saunders and the winners were Mrs M. Jackson and Mrs E. Elsom. The weekly raffle was held with the prizes donated by the club, and Mesdames, Cooper, Musson, Murphy, Straw, Tomlinson, Newberry, Richards, Dean, Blanc, Clipston, Brown, Blackwell, Creasey, Jarvis, Mould, Millward, Baxter, and Polkey. There are currently membership opportunities available, anyone interested please call in on Tuesday afternoons.

4th Rainbows

Rainbows visited Blidworth Fire Station on Friday evening for an evening of fun and learning. They all tried on the uniforms and went inside the fire engines. They held the hoses and squirted water and were able to smell smoke, learning of the importance of being aware and of keeping their parents informed in event of a fire. They learned a song about why they should not play with matches. Three Rainbows made their Rainbow promise, Hollie, Maisie and Mischa.

3rd Rainbows

Friday fortnight saw Brownies make plans to invite their families to celebrate Mother’s Day on the Friday before the day. Brownies made invitations, cards and presents for their mums and practised making tea. Emily and Isobel tested chocolate recipes and the Brownies made boxes to put chocolate in to give to their mums. On Friday week, Brownies did some more planning and making for their Mother’s Day meeting on Friday. Ellie’s mum came to help with sewing and Emily and her team made chocolates and sweets.

U3A

The next meeting will be on 9th April at 10am in the Village Hall. The meetings are open to all who are no longer in full-time employment.

St George’s RC Church

Fr Christopher Thomas was assisted at the altar on Saturday evening by Andrew Storey, Lilly David and Jordon and Rachel Boulton. There were readings from Pam Berry and Janet Clayton and offertory bearers were Jackie Massey, Frances Allsop, John Storey, and Brian McDonagh. The Eucharistic Ministers were Angela Storey, Andrew Storey, and Michael Boulton.

Methodist Church

The weekly Slimming World group met on Tuesday with the Weight Watcher group and Rainworth Leisure Artist group meeting on Wednesday. The uniformed Guides, Rainbow and Brownie groups met on Friday evening. On Saturday the Mansfield Artist group met with the regular coffee morning also taking place. On Sunday morning, Margaret Allwood from Farnsfield led the service with readings from Margaret Toon, John Bretton and Judith Daykin. The Sunday school group was led by Vanessa Lewin and Alan Mosley. The flowers decorating the church were in memory of Mr and Mrs Vickers. The church hosted on ection service in the evening which was attended by members of other local Methodist churches. The Rev’d David Greenwood led the service and there were readings from Alan Mosley. Musician for the day was Margaret Toon and John Bretton was Welcome steward for both services.

SS Simon and Jude’s

Morning Prayer services on both Tuesday and Wednesday were led by the Rev’d Hazel Robinson with Thursday’s Holy Communion being led by the Rev’d Geoff Maltby. On Wednesday evening church members visited Blidworth Methodists who were hosting part of the lent courses. The next one will be on Wednesday 26th March on the theme, Sacramental Prayer. On Thursday Stephanie Smart and Marilyn Brown were on hand for Vestry hour and the choir practised Thursday night for the Easter services.

SS Simon & Jude’s

The regular weekly coffee mornings were held on Thursday, Friday and Saturday mornings and on Sunday the Holy Communion service was led by the Rev Clare Tyack with the Rev Robinson presenting the sermon. John Robinson led prayers and there were readings from Kriss Steer and Marilyn Brown. Gordon Foster played the music during the service. The evenings Café church saw Sharon Winders talk about her training to be a lay reader at the church.

Pensioners’ Club

On Monday week, the meeting was opened by Mrs M. Brailsford. Mrs K. White, Mrs J. Pitt and Mrs R. Dodsworth served the members with refreshments. Tickets were sold by Mrs M. Cooper and Mr H. Alcock called the bingo. Mrs M. Cooper organised and called the quiz and the winner was Mrs A. Farr. Bingo winners were Mesdames S. Cutts, M. Prior, J. Pitt, C. Bricknell, M. Gladwin, T. Jukes, M. Richards, B. Creasey, and Messrs P. Beardhall, M. Cooper, and E. Ufton. Raffle winners were Mesdames M. Underwood, S. Layland, M. Prior, J. Pitt, J. Smith, and Mr A. Musson.

St Andrew’s

The morning prayer services were held on Monday and Wednesday led by the Rev Hazel Robinson, who also led Wednesday’s morning Communion. Followed by a short service in the chapel, Vestry Hour is a time when people who want to book weddings, ask for banns to be read, book baptisms or who would just like to pop in and talk to the clergy. It is held at St Andrew’s on Wednesdays, from 6-7pm, and this week was led by Angela Penny. The school visit from Blidworth Oaks School, as part of ‘Experience Easter’, was very successful with around 160 children coming along to St Andrew’s.

St Mary’s Church

Stephanie Smart led the service on Sunday morning and also gave a reading from the gospel. Assisting with the service were Stephen Fox and the Rev Hazel Robinson. There were readings from the Old Testament by Mary Harris with Vivienne Tansy reading from the New Testament. The Rev Robinson gave a sermon and Mr Fox led prayers. Gordon Foster played the music during the service.

Methodist Church

The Artist group met at the church on Tuesday. A Churches Together Lent course was held on Wednesday and the church again hosts the course on 2nd April when the theme is ‘Contemplative Prayer’. Karen O’Hara led the weekly prayer group at the church on Thursday and on Sunday morning the service was led by the Rev David Greenwood. There were readings from was Marianne Jarratt who also welcomed church members and friends to the service. Vanessa Crane played the music for the service and flowers decorating the church were donated by Marjory Knight. The Sunday school group was led by Rebeccah Widowson and Karen O’Hara. For their evening service church members visited Rainworth Methodist church for a section service.

Walking Group

The walk was taken by David Smith, the 5.5-mile walk went from Blidworth Leisure Centre to Boundary Wood into Blidworth Oaks, through to Blidworth Bottoms and back to the leisure centre, the walk was completed by 12 people. Patient Participation

Members and friends enjoyed a performance by the Ravenshead Swing Band as part of an event which raised money for the Defribulators fund. The event was well attended, and also well supported by the Sherwood Forest Community Church, both with volunteers and their ‘generous gift’ of the use of its facilities.

Kirklington

St Swithin’s Church

The next service at the church will be for Mothering Sunday and will be held in the afternoon at 3.30pm. Following the service refreshments will be served in the village hall.

Halam

St Michael’s Church

A mid-morning service on Sunday was led by the Rev David McCullough and he also gave a reading from the Gospel. Di Parish also read and Dr Alec wells played the music during the service. The church is celebrating Mothering Sunday with a special service in the morning and Simnel cake will be served and posies distributed.

Edingley

Methodist Church

Sunday worship at Edingley chapel was conducted by Rev Helen Nice. Her subject was ‘Christ’s gift of himself’. Colin Curtis played the organ. The next service will be on 27th April at 3pm.

St Giles Church

Holy Communion on Sunday morning was led by the RevDavid McCullough. Music during the service was played by Richard Nunn and Ed Compton and Ann Nunn both read lessons.

Edingley Village

James Clay provided help and advice at a recent digital workshop held at the village hall. Those attending learned new skills to get to grips with modern technology and their cameras with a number of photos being taken of daffodils in readiness for the forthcoming festival. A further workshop is to be held later in the year. The Edingley Daffodil festival will take place this weekend at The Old Schoolroom, Edingley, from 11am-4pm on each day. Refreshments and cream teas will be served. Various competitions involving daffodils, Best Garden Daffodil Display (to include allotments), Daffodil in a pot, Painting, Photography, 3D Daffodil and these will be judged during the weekend. Entry forms from coffee mornings held at the venue. Please contact Cathy Clay for an entry form on Mansfield 882734. On Sunday 11th May, the village hall is open for Sunday coffee and refreshments following the morning service at St Giles across the road. On Saturday 17th May from 10am-noon, as part of Christian Aid week, the Village Hall is opening for a Table top sale. Refreshments will also be available.
