Methodist Church

Sunday morning’s service was taken by John Adamson. The church hosted a section service in the evening led by the Rev David Greenwood. There were readings from Alan Mosley and Jim Goodwin. Enid Marsh played the music for both the days’ services. Plans and the date for the church’s Spring Fayre were announced. It is to be held on Saturday between 9.30am-noon. Various stalls are planned and refreshments including bacon butties will be served. Geoff Platt is also planning to resume his tradition 5p marathon.

Friendship Club

Diane Demers welcomed 36 members to the meeting on Friday week at the Village centre when Stuart Dickson gave an illustrated talk on ‘England’s Cottage Gardens’. Bingo was played, a Raffle held, and refreshments were served. The clubs next meeting will be on May 9th when members will be taking a boat trip on the River Trent and enjoying a meal.

Rainworth

Over 50s

Mr J. Hallam welcomed 96 members to the meeting on Tuesday week at the Rainworth Miners’ Welfare. Mr C. Dodsworth was the MC for dancing and the spot waltz winners were Mrs L. Blackwell and Mrs J. Blackwell. Serving refreshments to the members were Mrs B. Edmondson, Mrs E. Baxter, Mrs R. Dodsworth and Mrs M. Wood. Mr J. Hallam called the bingo and the ticket sellers were Mrs J. Blackwell and Mrs L. Parkin. The competition winner was Mrs E. Haggarty. MC for Dominoes was Mr J. Saunders and the winners were Mr and Mrs B. Mould. The weekly raffle was held with the prizes donated by the club, and Mesdames, Cooper, Dodsworth J, Dodsworth R, Chamberlain, Richards, Turton, Simpson, Dennett, Seed, Brown, Spafford, Creasey, Poyser, Bell, Edmondson, Baxter, Sherratt, and Millward. Members held a two-minute silence in memory of past chairman Roy Lewis, who died last Thursday. He is well remembered by club members.

4th Rainbows

The Rainbows’ meeting prior to Easter was cancelled so at their first meeting at SS Simon and Jude’s following the break they completed their Easter nests. Rainbows played games and made plans on what to do for future weeks. Maisie and Lily also made their Rainbow promise.

U3A

The group meets on the second Wednesday of every month, between 110am-noon. There is a raffle, and book stall where books, magazines and DVDs can be taken along for sale, and bought for 40p. The 12 or more interest groups are now thriving, with more to be introduced. At the 10am meeting on 14th May, the speaker will be Lucinda Kitchin on the subject of Travels in Thailand. Any ‘third-agers’ who are no longer in full time employment, will be welcome at the meetings. For details contact Jill on Mansfield 400545.

Methodist Church

On Tuesday fortnight, the weekly Slimming World Group met with the Weight Watchers’ group and Rainworth Leisure Artist group also meeting on Wednesday. Bible study and Fellowship was held on Thursday evening hosted by Judith and Mick Daykin. The Rainbow, Brownie and Guide groups met on Friday evening and on Saturday the Mansfield Artist group met and the regular coffee morning was held. On Sunday morning, Russ Walters led the service which included readings from Pat Holmes and Joan Walters. Marion Bossons donated the flowers that decorated the church and Christine Daniel welcomed churchgoers to the service. The Sunday school group was supervised by Vanessa Lewin and Alan Mosley. Margaret Toon played the music for the service. For their evening service church members visited Farnsfield Methodists for their section service led by the Rev David Greenwood.

SS Simon and Jude’s

Morning Prayer services were held on Tuesday and Thursday by the Rev Hazel Robinson, who also led Holy Communion service on Thursday. Marilyn Brown and the Rev Robinson were in attendance at Thursday’s Vestry hour. The regular weekly coffee mornings took place on Thursday, Friday and Saturday mornings. On Sunday morning, Holy Communion was led by the Rev Robinson and Marilyn Brown gave the sermon. Leila Southcott played the music for the service and there were readings from John Heider and Stuart Brown who also led prayers. The Rev Clare Tyack read from the Gospel. The evening’s ‘Café Church’ was led by the Rev Tyack and Sharon Winders. Sharon and Kerry Winders will once again be taking part in The Race for Life on Sunday 8th June. The Ladybird Toddler Parent and Toddle group needs new leaders from September. Anyone who is interested should see Maureen or Hazel, or call in and see Rebecca Robinson on a Thursday morning.

Blidworth

Pensioners Club

On Monday week, the meeting was opened by Mrs M. Brailsford, Mrs K. White, Mrs J. Pitt and Mrs M. Wood served the members with refreshments. Tickets were sold by Mrs J. Dodsworth and she also called the bingo. Mrs M. Cooper organised and called the quiz and the winner was Mr H. Alcock. Bingo winners were Mesdames J. Pitt, E. Turton, S. Cutts, B. Poyser, M. Brailsford, M. Cooper, V. Greaves, M. Cope, B. Creasey, and P. Smart. Raffle winners were Mesdames M. Gladwin, J. Smith, C. Bricknell, M. Cope, V. Greaves, J. Davies, and Mr H. Alcock. Members also celebrated the birthday of Mrs M. Cope.

St Andrew’s Church

The Morning Prayer services were held on Monday and Wednesday and Wednesday’s morning Communion was led by Rev Clare Tyack. Vestry Hour is a time when people can book weddings, ask for banns to be read, book baptisms or talk to the clergy. It is held at St Andrew’s on Wednesdays from 6-7pm and this week was led by Angela Penny. The bric-a-brac sale and 200 club event on Saturday morning raised £280 for church funds.

Methodist Church

On Sunday morning the service was led by the Rev David Greenwood and the musician was Vanessa Crane. Readers were Trish Stewart and Ann Daines.

St Mary’s Church

The service on Sunday morning was led by Sharon Winders and she also led the congregation in prayer. Old Testament readings were from Carol Brown and John Robinson read from the New Testament. Angela Penny gave readings from the Gospel and the sermon was given by Marilyn Brown. Recorded music accompanied the service. Sharon and Kerry Winders are once again be taking part in The Race for Life on Sunday 8th June and would be grateful for sponsorship

Patient Group

The Blidworth and Ravenshead Patient Participation Group’s next meeting is today at 5pm at Blidworth Surgery. The next major events for the group are the Warm, Well and Wise event on Monday 7th July, which is for the benefit of the community and on Friday 12th September, at Ravenshead Village Hall there will be a Quiz Night with pie and pea supper. The quiz master will be Rick Gooch, the new practice manager.

Edingley

Methodist Church

The Rev Helen Nice led the service at Edingley chapel, she was assisted by Rev’d Philip Macdonald for Holy Communion. David Brown played the organ, Arnold Bower read from the chapel Bible and Julie Forrest led an appreciation of reflections and memories people have about Edingley Chapel. Tea for 50 was prepared by Jean Wright and Jean Rogers. After 176 years, this building has now closed for public worship.

St Giles’ Church

Fr Matthew Askey led Holy Communion on Sunday morning. Richard Nunn played the music during the service and there were readings from Ann Tyler and Ed Compton.

Village News

This Sunday the Village Hall is open for coffee and refreshments following the morning service at St Giles. On Saturday 17th May, from 10am -noon, the Village Hall is opening for a table top sale for Christian Aid week. Refreshments will also be available.
