Scouts, Cubs, Beavers
A joint meeting was held with everyone attending a bonfire party Monday week with fireworks provided by parents. Leaders Graham Baguley, Ross Stoneman, Diane Johnson, Emma Tyson, Kim Litchfield, Sharon Page, Parent helpers Sue Baguley, Lisa Jest, Marian Mawer and young leaders helped organize and supervised the event. Scouts held a family night Friday week at headquarters. £230 was raised toward funds. Scout leader Graham Baguley arranged the event and was helped by helpers and parents.
Ladies Running Club
Three groups attended Monday week’s meeting making a total of 16 members , beginners, intermediate and experienced runners on a village route, covering from two to four miles. Sunday morning group consisted of Cathie Babbington and Sam Straw covering 6.5 miles of cross country, Clare Story, Louise Benson and Frankie Cooke covered two miles on the Farnsfield Trail. Jenny Wallis and Kaylan Smith covered 10 miles of biking in Sherwood Pines due to injuries. Kirsty Cooke and Emma Brown covered 4.82 miles and Lorraine Hall-Smith and Helen Humphries covered 5.82 miles round Hexgrave area. Marie Gilbert covered 3.85 miles circling King’s Mill Reservoir three times. A thank you for the donation received from Oakwood Fuels (Steve Tooley ) which is going towards funds to purchase head torches for the club.
Burton Court Centre
Chairman Sandra Morton welcomed 16 members to Tuesday week’s meeting. Raffle winners were Kath Taylor and Ann Hutchison. Bingo caller was Sandra Morton. Twenty-two members attended Thursday week’s meeting. Raffle winners were Maureen James and Sheila Hall. Bingo caller was Sandra Morton.
St John Ambulance
Sixteen Cadet and Badgers attended Wednesday week’s meeting at headquarters. Certificates for Radio Communication and Crime Prevention were presented to the Cadets. Badgers were presented with certificates for First-Aid and Healthy. Badgers practised drill with Melissa and Sharon Austin in preparation for the Remembrance Day parade. Adult members Sylvia Wilson and Sarah Richardson gave Cadets instruction in manual handling. Members of the competition team practiced with Geoff Goddard and Trevor Knott.
Social Whist Drive
Eight members and friends attended the meeting Wednesday week at Burton Court Centre. Raffle winner was David Ramsdale. Whist winners included Ken Corkish, Robert Rowe, Ann Hutchison and Celia Smith.
Raffle winners were Sylvia Summerville and Irene Westerman. Bingo caller was Celia Smith. Twenty-five members attended Friday week. Raffle winners were Frances Cooper and Sheila Hall. Bingo caller was Celia Smith.
Over 5os Club
Chairman David Ramsdale welcomed 36 members to the meeting held Wednesday week at the Welfare. Dance MC was David Ramsdale and bingo caller was Jack Staton. Members joined in a horse racing theme game arranged by Joe Lowde, Becky Kemp and Graham Vardy. A quiz arranged by Alan Higgins was won by Rayna Clipston. Winners of the chocolate dance were Wilson and Hazel Bryan. Refreshments were served by Marion Sentence. 17 raffle prizes were won winners are David Ramsdale, Marion Sentence, Gillian Hattersley, Hazel Bryan, Connie Roberts, Wilson Bryan, Jean Higgins, Sheila Cordon, Mel Bradley, Monica Powell, Ivy Wells, Steve Jackson, Jan Jones, Christine Benn and Marion Towle.
ST Margaret’s Church
Sunday week’s Service of Remembrance was held at the Welfare. The service was led by the Rev’d Margaret Groves. All organizations were present, and then proceeded to the War Memorial led by the choir. The names of the fallen were read and then the laying of the wreaths followed by a minutes silence.
