Colleen's fight for fair pension deal

In 1995 the retirement age for women was increased from 60-65, in-line with men’s, but this changed again in 2011 to 66 for both men and women.

But many of the women affected received no notification of the changes and so failed to plan for the additional time period without an income.

Colleen Eales, 60, of Priory Road, was expecting to able to draw her state pension last year and only found out 18 months before that should she would have to wait six more years than she originally expected.

Now grandmother-of-six Colleen, who is unable to work to due health problems, has no income and is completely reliant on her husband’s pension.

She said: “I have paid all my contributions but am left with nothing. This is why I will be joining the demonstration at Parliament on June 29.”
