Co-op lorry driver stars in TV advert

Steve Brough features in the new Department for Work and Pensions advert about workplace pensions, which has been seen on television during the last month.

He landed the role after the makers of the advertisement went along to the Co-operative Castlewood CDC, on Castlewood Business Park, to find workers to star in it.

“It just happened I was asked to do a test shot and I did it for a bit of a laugh because nobody else would do it,” said Steve (44), from Heanor.

“Then I got an email to say I had been picked to do the advert!”

Steve went down to London to film his piece in what was his first experience of having to perform for the camera.

He said: “I was not nervous really - it was just a bit of fun for me. I enjoyed it.”

The advert hit television screens earlier this month and has been shown during the advert breaks on primetime programmes such as X Factor and Coronation Street.

When Steve saw himself on the box for the first time, he thought it was hilarious.

“My mate rang me up and said ‘I have just seen you on telly!’,” he said.

“I had recorded the programme he had seen it on and watched it straight away.

“I couldn’t stop laughing and my kids couldn’t either.”

Many people Steve knows have spotted him on the TV and he said his Facebook profile ‘got a battering’ from friends leaving comments.

He is also hoping to feature in the re-edit of the advert.
