CLEARED: All lanes reopened on M1 after overturned lorry is recovered

All lanes of the M1 northbound between Chesterfield and Mansfield have reopened following work to recover an overturned lorry.

The accident on Friday, between junctions 28 and 29 at Tibshelf, initially resulted in a full closure of the northbound carriageway.

The i newsletter cut through the noise

Highways officials managed to re-open the carriageway, but on Friday evening two lanes were closed again for a number of hours while the lorry was recovered. The operation continued until just after midnight.

Highways England tweeted: “Thanks to recovery operator for their hard work this evening with lift and recovery of HGV. #M1 J28 – J29 (N) now fully re-opened. #Tibshelf”
