Clean up after your dogs or face a fine

Disobedient dog owners and street drinkers in Ashfield are reminded that tough new powers come into force on Thursday which will make them clean up their act or face a fine.

The Public Spaces Protection Order is designed to prevent seven activities that cause anti-social behaviour in public places. It extends the powers officers have to tackle urination in the street and dog fouling by creating a new offence of failing to produce a receptacle for picking up dog faeces when requested to do so.

Dog owners could receive a Fixed Penalty Notice. Dog poop scoop bags can be bought for £1 per 100 bags from the council offices on Brook Street in Sutton and Urban Road in Kirkby. To report dog-fouling issues call the anti-social behaviour hotline on 0800 183 84 84.
