Cinema will be a feature at lights event

A pedal powered cinema will be a highlight at this year’s Christmas lights switch on event in Eastwood.

The cinema, at the event on Tuesday November 24, will be showing the festive classic, The Snowman.

This year’s event, between 6pm and 8pm, will stretch along Nottingham Road from Plumtre Way to Mansfield Road and includes a packed programme of free festive entertainment, live music and dance.

At 7pm the lights will be switched on at The Hollies by The Mayor of Broxtowe Cllr Susan Bagshaw and The Mayor of Eastwood Cllr Keith Longdon.

And the town will see a fantastic finale firework display at 8pm.

As well as the cinema, there will be live music at the Hollies and Eastwood Square, a landtrain from the craft centre to Eastwood library, an arts and crafts marquee, a fireshow, glow performers, fairground rides, Santa’s grottos at The Sun Inn and the Lawrence Vetinary practice and a fairy grotto at the DH Lawrence Birthplace Museum.

Children can make their Christmas wish with the fairy at the museum on Victoria Street, with a goody bag and special fairy bauble to take home.

Mince pies and mulled wine will be available for the grown-ups to enjoy and with a special 20 per cent off on the night.

Admission to the Fairy Grotto is £4 per child and all children must be accompanied by an adult.

There will also be a festive activities and drinks on at The Sun Inn including a kids disco from 5pm.

A road closure will be in place from 6pm to 9pm on Nottingham Road, at which point no vehicle movement will be allowed from Plumtre Way to Mansfield Road.

It is recommended that those needing to use their vehicle during this period make alternative parking arrangements.

The event is organised by Broxtowe Borough Council in partnership with Eastwood Town Council and Eastwood Town Light Switch On Steering Group and sponsored by Boyes.
