Benjaman Alexander Parsley, 21, of Willoughby Court, Mansfield, was spotted by police late on Friday, December 4, walking along Rosemary Street, and drunkenly swinging a one-foot piece of wood above his head.

When questioned, Parsley told officers he was on his way to kill another man, who had punched him in the mouth earlier in the evening, and was arrested.

Parsley admitted using threatening and abusive words in breach of a community order made in April 2015, following an incident in which he was sentenced to four months, suspended for a year.

Mr Haynes, defending, said: “He found himself arguing in drink with a friend over a cigarette. Neither wanted to make a complaint but Mr Parsley was seen by the police brandishing a piece of wood.

“He should perhaps have learned a valuable lesson, but it appears he did not.”

The court heard that Parsley had been complying with the terms of the order.

Judge Kirk said: “Technically you breached the order and should go to custody but we don’t want to prejudice your progress with probation.”

A curfew from 8pm to 8am on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays was imposed for three months. Parlsey was also ordered to pay a £40 fine, £85 costs and a £20 court charge.

Judge Kirk added: “You are in the last chance saloon. If it happens again the court will send you to prison.”
