Ciaran memorial fund doing well

More than £270 was raised for the Ciaran Sweeney Memorial Fund in collections taken during the Stags’ home clash with Plymouth Argyle.

Fourteen-year-old Ciaran’s body was found in water at Ratcher Hill Quarry, Southwell Road, Mansfield, on 1st October.

An inquest was told how a post-mortem had failed to find the cause of his death but further forensic examinations were due to take place.

Ciaran’s mother, Rheanne O’Neill, said the fund’s aim was to help pay for a private funeral service for her son and for a public memorial with an open invite to anyone wanting to pay their respects.

She added: “We are looking to sponsor some children who cannot afford swimming purely because Ciaran was found in the water.

“He could not swim - he had lessons but he could only doggy paddle and his swimming was weak.

“We would like to help out other families so they do not have to go through this because their children cannot not swim.”
