Christmas concert for needy at festive period

Mansfield’s Arena Church is holding a community concert and Christmas fair to raise money for its community projects and take food bank donations.

There will be music from the choir and house band The Meeting Place, crafts stalls and food and drink on 15th December from 6pm.

The lively pentecostal church is housed in the newly renovated ABC Cinema and Riley’s snooker hall on Leeming Street.

It hopes to support a range of groups at the new venue, including a lunch club for the elderly and a pool club for the disabled.

Julie Turner, operations manager at Arena, said: “As a church we do not just want to focus on what we need but help people in Mansfield and surrounding areas.”

Fees taken from stalls holders will go towards church funds for a project to host youth activities at the premises.

Children aged between 4-11 are being asked to design a Christmas card and bring it with them to the event. This will given to food bank recipients over the festive period.

All cards will be entered into a competition which will be judged on the night, with the winner receiving a Samsung Galaxy tablet.

The Church is appealing for local businesses to help meet the costs of its purchase.

If you would like to donate food parcels before the big night, staff at Arena will be at the Leeming Street building on Sundays between 5-8pm.
