Child safety fears at Lammas swimming pool

Parents whose children swim at the Lammas Leisure Centre are becoming worried about the safety of their children while in the pool - because of bathers’ revealing swimwear.

One parent has contacted the Chad after seeing a man wearing very revealing, see-through Speedo-style swimming trunks at the pool.

The Sutton woman, who preferred not to be named, said she had complained to staff at the pool and was told the man had already been spoken to but stronger words were obviously needed.

She added: “I was there with my children last week when he walked past in Speedos which were completely see-through.

“It is not appropriate in front of children.

“He walks past the children then disappears into the toilets for 5-10 minutes before going back in the pool.

“But he does not just walk past - he struts past.”

The woman said she had spoken with other parents who were also concerned.

She added: “It is disgusting and quite worrying.

“I do not want my children seeing that.”

A spokesman for Nottinghamshire Police said an officer had visited the centre and spoken to staff but no crime had been committed and it was the responsibility of Lammas staff to address issues over swimming attire.

Simon Fearn, contract manager for Everyone Active, which runs the Lammas in partnership with Ashfield District Council, said: “The issue has been brought to our attention and we are treating it as a serious matter.

“We have contacted the gentleman to address his swimming attire and would like to apologise to any members affected by this incident.”
