Chad wins right to name Mansfield boy who raped disabled man

THE identity of a 15-year-old Mansfield boy who raped a disabled man can be revealed after Chad successfully asked for reporting restrictions to be lifted in the case.

Ben O’Neill, of Beck Crescent, was today (Friday) detained for three-and-a-half years after he admitted rape, attempted rape and sexually assaulting the 65-year-old man at a previous hearing.

He carried out the early-morning attack on land, off Vale Road in Mansfield Woodhouse, on 4th August.

The court was told that O’Neill suffered from ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder) and was on drugs when he committed the crime.

Chad was allowed to name him after reporter Nick Frame made a challenge in court on the grounds that it was in the public interest to do so and due to the severity of the crimes he had carried out.
