MANSFIELD Chad reporter Chris Breese is celebrating after he was crowned Weekly Newspaper Reporter of the Year at the prestigious Midlands Media Awards.

Chris beat off stiff competition from reporters across the midlands, including fellow Chad reporter Nick Brimacombe, who was in the same category, during the awards ceremony at Egbaston Cricket Ground in Birmingham on Thursday night.

The accolade caps a fantastic 18 months for Chris, who has played a key role in the Chad’s news coverage across Mansfield and Ashfield since he joined the newspaper in November 2009.

Chris was one of six members of the Chad team who attended the event after being shortlisted.

The full list of nominees and categories were: Stephen Thirkill (Innovation of the Year); Stags Talk team (Stephen Thirkill, John Lomas, Tim Morriss and James Hoy); Chris Breese and Nick Brimacombe (Weekly Newspaper Reporter of the Year); Jane Hilton (Sports Photographer of the Year); Angela Ward (Trevor Roberts Photograph of the Year).
