Chad Editor Tracy Powell, second left, hands over a £852.57 cheque to Jayne Burkitt, left, King’s Mill Hospital’s radiography services manager, whilst Joanne Young, of the hospital’s PALS service, presents Chad’s Stephen Thirkill with a certificate of appreciation for the paper’s contribution to the MRI scanner appeal.
The cashpot was raised after Johnston Press, who own the Chad newspaper, donated three pence from sales of every copy of the 15th August edition of the Mansfield Chad.
Tracy Powell said: “We are absolutely delighted with the response to the Chad’s MRI scanner appeal in Mansfield and Ashfield. Readers have really got behind it and staff at the Chad have embraced the fundraising spirit by bringing in well over £1,500 in our own initiatives since the appeal began in June.
“We are proud to have handed over a cheque for £857 raised through a 3p donation for every newspaper sold in one week. This is in addition to the money raised at two cake bake stalls and from reporter Catherine Allen’s efforts in the Robin Hood Half Marathon.
“We are now at the £150,000 mark which is fantastic from a community struggling with high unemployment and social deprivation. We have lots more in the pipeline over Christmas and well into the New Year to help in reaching our ambitious £750,000 target.”
