CHAD staff enjoyed an extra sweet treat on Thursday at a cake sale to raise funds for Sutton-based charity Home Start.
Staff members brought in a variety of homemade cakes and the event raised £25 for the charity.
Home Start, which supports struggling families with children under five-years-old, is the chosen charity for Ashfield Chad’s first ever Christmas Appeal.
Over the past few weeks, we have been asking you to donate small gifts which will be given to the children who use Home Start at their Christmas party, which takes place at Kirkby’s Festival Hall on 9th December.
Reporter Catherine Allen, who organised the cake sale, said: “It went really well. Lots of people brought something in and it was a really good day.
“Alongside the presents, I wanted to donate some money to Home Start which can be used either for their party or go towards some of the services the charity provides in Ashfield.”
Meanwhile, generous readers have already donated lots of gifts to the appeal, including books, toys, clothes and games.
Some families in Ashfield cannot afford presents at Christmas which is why we have asked you to help make this time of year extra special for the area’s youngsters.
Over the past month, we have featured stories of people who have volunteered with Home Start or benefited from the service it provides.
There is still time to donate a gift for this year’s appeal and you can drop it into any of the Chad’s offices on Outram Street in Sutton or Newgate Lane or Market Place in Mansfield.
All we ask is that the gift is brand new and suitable for a child under five-years-old. If you are buying a present for a baby, it should be suitable for under three-months-old.
