Chad area teens up for top 4uth award

Kyle Sherwin, Emilie Wright and Hanna Bagshaw have won the outstanding achievement awards for Ashfield, Mansfield and Newark and Sherwood, respectively.

Kyle, 18 of Sutton was nominated because of his work as a dedicated volunteer both at his local youth club and also in an orphanage in India.

He was nominated for the award by Emma Bettridge, a youth worker at Quarrydale Young People’s Centre. She said: “Kyle has attended fortnightly member’s forum meetings at the youth club, he has painted rooms at the centre and dedicated time to preparing activities for other younger members. Kyle has also given up his time each week to volunteer at the club’s junior night, where he teaches guitar and organises sing-along sessions.”

Emilie is 15 and lives in Mansfield Woodhouse. She has been nominated for the award by her grandmother Janet Wright, for her work in her local community supporting the Mansfield Woodhouse Community Development Group. Janet said: “Emilie is the only young person in this group and loves to put her ideas forward from a young person’s point of view.”

Hanna, 15 from Rainworth was nominated for the way she has overcome barriers presented by the fact she has cerebral palsy to make a valued contribution to the local brownie pack as a guide leader.

Coun Liz Plant, of Nottinghamshire County Council, said: “Hannah does not let cerebral palsy get in the way of what she wants to achieve and she has done so much to promote the Guides and Brownies in her local area of Rainworth. She does so much to support the movement which must be really inspiring to so many people.”

The overall winner will be announced at an event at the Old Library in Mansfield, in November.
