Cash raised in memory of councillor

Friends of late Mansfield District Councillor Bob Cross (11), are pictured here at the Smith street social club with a cheque for £1,500.

The money, in aid of Kidney Research, was raised from donations at his funeral and through a football match and fund raising day by his old football team.

Bob Cross, a member of the Mansfield Independent Forum, died in February after having kidney dialysis during the last two years of his life.

He had suffered with type one diabetes from the age of 11.

The former councillor was so passionate about improving the lives of Mansfield people that he took calls from his bed while receiving hospital treatment.

His wife, Lynne, said the illness never held him back.

“Bob was straight-talking and passionate. He did not become a councillor for the politics but to help others,” she said.
