Carol concert helps raise awareness

In the best traditions of the Christmas season, caring pupils and staff at Bulwell’s Our Lady of Perpetual Succour Academy have reached out to the less fortunate by holding a Carol Concert outside Iceland in Bulwell Main Street.

The object of the school’s singing session was to raise awareness of the plight of struggling and needy local families who are benefitting from Food Bank schemes.

An approach made to Iceland’s manager Darren Long and his work colleague Stella Giles by Julie Abbott, who is Our Lady’s Home Support Worker , proved fruitful and by their efforts and with considerable support from passing shoppers money given by donations was used to purchase food items from Iceland who weighed in by providing more provisions from the store.

Members of the community heaped praise on the 25-strong contingent of singers and their teachers for supporting the Food bank initiative.

Our Lady’s Academy recently held a Big Snore sleepover in support of the Canaan Trust which helps homeless males, an initiative which has currently raised in excess of £1,400 for the cause.
