Careless Mansfield driver puts woman in hospital

A Mansfield woman put another woman in hospital as a result of her careless driving.

Jayne Davies, 58, of Berry Hill Lane, Mansfield, pleaded guilty to driving without due care an attention on Blidworth Lane.

Mansfield Magistrates’ heard how the woman was driving up the road and failed to see a parked council workers’ van on her side of the road.

Prosecuting, Marjorie Kirkham-Smith, said: “The van was perfectly visible at the scene.

“And she was driving along the way and didn’t see it.

“So she clipped the van and hit the vehicle coming in the other direction.”

The car coming in the other direction was being driven by a man, with his wife in the passenger seat.

The accident caused his wife to sustain deveral injuries.

Mrs Kirkham-Smith added: “She spent ten painful days in hospital and still remains housebound.”

The court also heard how council workers were outside the van wearing high visibility jackets and there were flashing lights, but she still failed to see what was in front of her.

Defending herself, Davies said: “I’m very sorry for causing this accident and using up the time of the court.”

She has been ordered to pay a total of £365 in court fees and has been given seven penalty points on her driving license.
