The singer, who started out as a professional soloist, fostered musical talent in the town since forming the award-winning all-girl choir back in 1968.

Cantamus have won 26 first prizes at international competitions all over the world but perhaps their greatest achievement was taking first place at the 2006 World Choir Games in Xiamen, China.

Mansfield’s Sheila Haslam (83), long-term friend to Pamela and Cantamus co-founder and secretary, says she believes more than 400 girls from the area have now sung with the world-famous group.

She added: “It was not only singing - Pamela taught the girls confidence and respect and a great ability to socialise. She almost taught them how to live.

“She was a loving, caring and exceptionally talented lady who could get something out of young voices something nobody else could.”

Pamela died early on Thursday morning (11th July) after suffering a stroke. Her funeral will be held at Southwell Minster on 22nd July at 1pm.
