Cake sale is a tasty boost for scanner appeal

The sale raised £918, which goes towards the target of £550,000 to fund the scanner, which will help thousands of patients disagnosed with diseases such as cancer,

“What an absolutely amazing amount of money the team managed to raise in just one day,” said Jayne Burkitt, the hospital’s radiography services manager.

“The new scanner will be a valuable asset to the radiology and nuclear medicine departments, so it’s really important that we get behind the appeal as much as possible.”

Cakes were baked by staff and sold on a stall at the entrance to the hospital to staff and visitors. A cake was also kindly donated by The Bakehouse cakes, pies and puds shop in Chesterfield, and this was given to the winner of a raffle among hospital staff.

Eleanor Rastrick, owner of The Bakehouse, said: “I like to donate a cake to charity events where possible, and a friend of mine works in the radiology department. It makes me very happy to hear that the cake helped to raise more than £900. It makes my job worthwhile.”
