Cake business tastes sweet success

Business at a Sutton cake company has risen to such a level that it is expanding from its indoor market stall into a new fully-fitted shop.

Cake baking and decorating company Cake Fusion is moving into a unit in the Idlewells Shopping Centre after outgrowing its current market premises.

Owner Gilly Swift has always loved to bake and decorate cakes and was convinced to start up her business at a breakfast meeting.

As her stall took off, the Idlewells Centre management team offered her the support she needed to fulfil her dream of opening her own shop.

Andrew Wraight, centre manager, said: “We are delighted to be welcoming Cake Fusion into a shop unit at Idlewells.

“To see a local small business growing successfully so quickly, despite challenging economic conditions, is really encouraging and we wish them every success.”

The new store will enable Gilly to expand Cake Fusion into new areas.

She said: “The new shop has enough room to accommodate the stock we have and also a teaching room upstairs where we will be holding classes such as cup-cake design, royal icing piping and airbrushing techniques.

“We will also be starting our Cake Club and skill swap sessions.”

Cake Fusion will open for business in the new premises on 9am on Saturday. Customers can expect fantastic offers and free gifts for everyone.
