Cable works planned to minimise road disruption

Western Power Distribution will be laying two new cables this summer as part of a £2.8m project to reinforce the electricity network in the Hucknall area.

Some work took place on Annesley Road, outside The National Academy, during last week’s school holiday, but the main work will start later in the year, with dates still to be confirmed.

Signs have been put up on roads around Annesley and Kirkby, warning motorists that delays are likely between now and November while the works are going on.

A Western Power spokesman said the project is needed to meet future electricity demand in the Hucknall area and follows on from two new transformers being installed last year.

Though some disruption to motorists is inevitable, most of the work will be done during school holidays to minimise disruption and residents will be notified.

A spokesman for Nottinghamshire County Council said that some roads will be closed in Hucknall town centre and one lane will be closed (south-bound) on the A611 from July to the end of September between Annesley and Hucknall. Precise dates have yet to be finalised.
