By-election announced after death of Mansfield councillor

A date has been set for the Yeoman Hill ward by-election following the death of local Councillor Lee Probert (pictured) on June 27.

The by-election will take place on Thursday September 8 and nominations for candidates can be submitted from today (August 1).

Returning Officer for Mansfield, Bev Smith said: “This by-election is being held following the sad death of Coun Lee Probert.

“Nominations for candidates must be submitted by August 11, 2016, at 4pm. If you have not registered to vote already, please make sure you do so by the deadline of August 22.”

The run-up to the election will adopt the following timetable:

11 August - close of nominations for candidates (4pm)

11 August - final date for withdrawals

12 August - Statement of persons nominated to be published 4pm

22 August - Deadline to register to vote

23 August - Deadline to apply for a postal vote (5pm)

31 August - Deadline to apply to vote by proxy - normal applications and non-medical emergencies (5pm)

8 September - Polling day

8 September - The count and declaration of result
