An employee at an innovative family company in Sutton has been nominated for a top business award.

Laura Porcu, who is low-carbon business development manager for Lindhurst Engineering Ltd, is one of three women shortlisted in the rising star category at the Midlands heat of the National Women in Business Awards (WIBAs).

Now in their sixth year, the WIBAs, sponsored by HSBC, have become one of the most high-profile and respected events for businesswomen, recognising their enormous contribution to the economy. Several hundred guests are expected to attend the glittering ceremony, which will be hosted at the Nottingham Belfry Hotel by ITV news reader Charlene White.

Lindhurst, based at Maun Valley Industrial Park, was founded in 1985 to provide fabrication services to the coal mining industry. As the firm has expanded, it has offered customers full design, manufacturing, installation and maintenance solutions and has played roles in the building of iconic projects such as the Millennium Dome, Cardiff’s Millennium Stadium and the Spinnaker tower in Portsmouth.
