Purpose Media’s latest recruit Mitchell Brown is swapping the heat of the kitchen for the buzz of the office in a complete career change.

A former pupil of Queen Elizabeth’s Academy and West Nottinghamshire College, Mitch has spent several years working as a chef in Michelin starred and recommended establishments including Gordon Ramsay’s Maze Restaurant in London.

He has now joined South Normanton-based Purpose Media in the client service team where he will learn more about implementing on-line marketing campaigns, e-commerce website development and search engine optimization.

Matt Wheatcroft, Purpose Media Managing Director, said: “Working in a busy kitchen means Mitch has many transferable skills. The ability to multi-task as part of a team whilst still retaining a calm head when working under pressure are some of the vital “soft skills” we look for when recruiting.

“Technical ability is something we can teach, so if we can find new recruits who have already mastered these softer skills we can continuously improve client service. ”

Mitch added: “It may sound odd change to change from being a chef to a career in web development, but I don’t see it that way as IT and social media were a passion as a hobby. I used to work 16 hours a day being a chef, spend six hours sleeping and probably 2 hours on my hobby. My new role means I can turn that ratio on its head and focus on something that I enjoy doing so much more.”

Purpose Media is an award winning e-commerce website development and on-line marketing specialist. The company focuses on the design and build of content managed websites and e-commerce solutions that integrate back office accounting and stock control systems for wholesalers, retailers and manufacturers.
