An office block in Mansfield town centre could be transformed into flats because the owners are struggling to attract businesses.

An application has been submitted to Mansfield District Council to convert the first and second floor of 39 Stockwell Gate into 14 small one-bedroom dwellings aimed at the ‘lower level of the rental market’.

The developer - Aldergate Realties Ltd - said they had failed to let the office space since the closure of the old Tesco store, which has now ben converted into B&M discount store, and since the bus station closed last year.

In their statement to the planning committee, they believe residential would ‘fare better’ that office space and work could begin on the site straight away if planning permission is granted.
