More Mansfield and Ashfield businesses show their support to Career Champions scheme

More and more local businesses are recognising and acknowledging the work conducted by the award winning Career Champions (CC) team.

The Career Champions team, which is made up of Berni Dickinson (Mansfield Learning Partnership), Caroline Cox (Mansfield 2020), Katrina Atherton (A-Star Media) and Chad’s news editor Stephen Thirkill) provides opportunities for employers to now offer local young people a range of activities from sponsor a student at a networking meeting, mentoring, delivering master classes, providing top tips and much more.

The activities designed by the CC board are based on focus group research conducted with the local business community with one clear objective in mind ‘improve the employability skills of our local young people’.

At this month’s Mansfield 2020 breakfast meeting 4 local businesses: Nitto Denko, School Energy Efficiency, Sainsbury’s and RBS took the pledge to support the employability skills of young people.

They will provide at least one activity each academic year which will support the students. Halifax Mansfield branch have committed to sponsor the annual Junior Enterprise event.

Such sponsorship is vital to ensure the event that teaches young people entrepreneurial skills can run year upon year.

The more businesses involved with the Career Champion activities enhances this towns ability to raise the aspiration of local youngsters and nurture the future workforce of Mansfield.

Young people are the economic future of this town and it is vital we demonstration and showcase all the successful businesses we have in this town in order to give our young people something to aspire too.

They need to see the opportunities available on their doorstep and Career Champions

provide this platform.
