The boss of a marketing agency, based in South Normanton, has scooped a prestigious business award from the Institute of Directors (IoD).
Matt Wheatcroft, of Purpose Media, was named East Midlands young director of the year and will now compete for the national title in London in September. The judges were impressed by Matt’s “straightforward approach to business, which is all about delivering value to customers and showing them tangible results”.
Alongside business partner Tim Lenton, Matt started Purpose Media from scratch in 2008, at the height of the recession. Initially, it was a web company with just three employees and zero capital, but it has grown into one of the most respected marketing agencies outside London, employing more than 40 and turning over more than £2 million per year.
The company has acquired two businesses and now owns four office units. It offers a full range of marketing services, including web and e-commerce development, creative branding, digital marketing, video production and PR, and works with brands including Derby County Football Club, True Manufacturing and Pattonair.
Matt said: “Purpose Media has undergone a huge amount of growth and change over the past two years to get us to where we are today, and this award reflects the hard work, passion and determination that has gone into making the firm a success.
“Personally, it’s a great accolade to receive, but it also reflects the efforts, support and commitment from Tim, our leadership team and all our fantastic, hard-working staff, whom I pay tribute to. It’s been a great journey and a real team effort.
“The way we have grown the business means we can now offer the perfect blend of creativity, technical expertise and real business acumen to ensure every project we deliver is commercially successful and our clients gain a return on their investment as a result of our advice, expertise and services.”
