A Mansfield-based media company is celebrating being named Specialist Media Publisher of The Year at the UK’s prestigious Specialist Media Show.
K9 Media Ltd, set up by former professional dog trainer Ryan O’Meara, took the top honour (Media Pioneer of the Year) at the event for its groundbreaking work in the field of digital media publishing for a specialist audience.
The firm, founded in Nottinghamshire, has remained based in the region, and publishes more than 300 websites and three magazines read by more than 12 million pet owners globally.
It picked up the coveted Media Pioneer award for its innovative work on ‘K9 Magazine’, a publication read by more than 100,000 dog lovers worldwide.
Mr O’Meara spoke of his delight at receiving the award and paid tribute to the opportunities afforded to young businesses via digital media technologies:
“We set up the business back in 1999 at the height of the dotcom downturn. So it’s particularly gratifying that we came through that difficult period and are receiving industry recognition for the work we produce.
“In these difficult economic times, we’ve never been more confident that the UK’s growth opportunities lie with innovative, bold use of digital media and web technologies that empower anyone with a good idea to get going with a business of their own.”
K9 Media Ltd has employees all over the world and serves clients in more than 15 different countries, but O’Meara spoke of his fondness for having a local base:
“Despite many calls to locate nearer the capital, we intend to keep ourselves based in the East Midlands for a long time to come.”
