Mansfield District Council has announced a timetable of free parking on the run up to Christmas.
The authority is offering free parking in all Council car parks on Thursday 11th December from 5pm to coincide with Mansfield BID’s Christmas Evening Market from 6pm – 8pm in Mansfield Market Place and on Westgate.
Four Seasons Shopping Centre, with support from Mansfield District Council, offers free parking in the Four Seasons multi storey car park after 5pm on Thursday late night shopping nights in the run up to Christmas (4th 11th, and 18th December) as well as free parking all day on Sundays.
All year round, there is also half an hour free parking in the car park behind the town hall and one hour free at the Civic Centre. Prices for town centre parking start at 70p an hour.
But unlike some other local authorities Mansfield District Council has no plans to offer free parking on Saturday 6th December the day which has been designated Small Business Saturday.
Shoppers in Ashfield will be able to park their cars for free across the whole of the district on Saturday.
Coun Kate Allsop, Portfolio Holder for Economic Regeneration at Mansfield District Council, said: “The decision was taken to provide extra support to our small businesses and independent retailers through additional promotion and events at other times of the year when trade is quieter rather than in the run up to Christmas, which is the busiest time.
“The free parking incentives in the run up to Christmas enable shoppers to make use of the excellent facilities in Mansfield at a time that is convenient to them.
“It will support our local retail community and encourage residents and visitors to spend money in the town centre.”
The Small Business Saturday campaign highlights small businesses’ successes and encourages consumers to support them.
The day itself takes place on the first shopping Saturday in December each year, but the campaign aims to have a lasting impact.
