Bulwell teacher bids farewell to school

A Bulwell Primary School headteacher described by his colleagues as a ‘class act’ has bid a fond farewell to his pupils.

Robert Dunbar bid a tearful farewell to youngsters and staff at Crabtree Farm primary School after retiring.

Surprises were the order of the day and a masterplan code name ‘Secret Mission’. was known by everyone at Crabtree apart from the unsuspecting headteacher.

During a special assembly, Mr.Dunbar (61), who lives in Linby, and is popularly known for wearing bow ties, was given a ‘This is Your Life’ surprise, through music, song, poetry and on-screen tributes.

There were gifts galore for Mr Dunbar, who was showered with cards and presents linked to his interest in walking, mountain climbing, and gardening.

Born in Nigeria, Mr Dunbar began his teaching career in Nottingham at Mellers Primary in 1973 and went on to become deputy head at Bentinck Primary.

He then took on the headship at Bonington Junior School, which later became Crabtree Farm Primary/

During an emotional celebration party Mr Dunbar said: “It breaks my heart to leave this wonderful school”.

“One consolation is that I leave behind a legacy that will be safe in the hands of my successor Katie Pritchard and her deputy Lorna Haskey.”

He then told his colleagues: “ Look after each other. There is so much love in this school and I just know that Crabtree Primary will go on to achieve further successes in the future.”
