Bulwell street made safer for pedenstrians

Bulwell town centre is being made safer for pedestrians with the introduction of the closure of Pilkington Street to vehicles.

The change comes as a result of consultations with a number of groups including local market traders and businesses, blue badge holders and all restricted access permit holders. The majority of respondents were in favour of the closure and felt that it would improve the pedestrian aspect of Bulwell.

The experimental Traffic Regulation Order on Pilkington Street will be operational from Wednesday 13 November 2013 and effective for 18 months. No entry to the street will be clearly signed with the use of solar powered signs.

Nottingham City Council’s Portfolio Holder for Planning and Transport, Councillor Jane Urquhart, said “This change to Pilkington Street will mean a noticeable improvement for pedestrians, making it safer and easier to enjoy spending time in Bulwell town centre.”

Restricted access permit holders and Blue Badge holders will still be able to access the area via Main Street and Montague Street and exit via Commercial Road.
